Season 5 Ep.5: "Whistle While Your Wife Works" References

  • The episode title itself is an allusion to a song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs called "Whistle While You Work."
  • Chris acts out a scene in which he plays an FBI agent chasing David Koresh, the former leader of the Waco, Texas Branch Davidian cult.
  • When Brian doesn't want to introduce his new girlfriend to Stewie, Stewie starts chanting the famous old-school cheer "U-G-L-Y - you ain't got no alibi..."
  • Peter hides his porn in a "Get Smart"-style spy headquarter.
  • Quagmire says, "Skinemax doesn't show the good stuff until 3 a.m." (Skinemax is the nickname for pay-tv channel Cinemax).
  • Peter flashes back to a time when the guys hung out at I.H.O.P. with the "big horned guy" from Legend.
  • While hanging out at the brewery, the guys wonder who they'd strike down first if they were God -Debra Messing or French Stewart.
  • Nobody but Quagmire knows who Tim Daly or Tony Shaloub of "Wings" are. (This is funny because Quagmire is a pilot, and "Wings" was a 90s tv show centered around quirky characters running a Nantucket-based airline).
  • Peter has weekly phone discussions with his friends during which they recite plots of movies to him. (It's the same movies every week). He relies on Cleveland for discussing You, Me, and Dupree & Quagmire for Along Came Polly.
  • Peter mocks a Life cereal commercial.
  • When Stewie asks what Brian could possibly have to talk about with his airheaded girlfriend Jillian, Brian says they talk about MTV's "Real World / Road Rules Challenge."
  • Brian's ring tone is Axel F. by Harold Faltermeyer, made famous in the Beverly Hills Cop movie.
  • Jillian tries to watch Mr. 3000 but doesn't understand how to work her DVD player.
  • We find out that Lois uses Pert shampoo, and Peter uses Speedstick.
  • Brian says he & Jillian first met at Quizno's.
  • Brian says breaking up with Jillian will be tougher than reviews of the play "Our American Cousin" (the play during which Lincoln was assassinated).
  • Peter writes letters to Penthouse.
  • Peter says he always knew he'd get Lois like Danny DeVito knew he'd get Rhea Perlman.
  • Stewie has the song Cars by Gary Numan on his mix tape.
