Season 7 Ep.2: "I Dream of Jesus" References

  • The title "I Dream of Jesus" obviously alludes to the TV show "I Dream of Jeannie"
  • At the 50s style diner all of the wait staff look like icons of that decade. There's Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, and James Dean, the latter of whom is a mangled "after the accident" version.
  • Peter listens to the 1963 Trashmen hit "Surfin' Bird" excessively.
  • Star Jones' flabby arms are shown after the weight surgery.
  • Lois has an Allen Sherman record that just "walked away."
  • When Brian and Stewie destroy Peter's "Surfin' Bird" record, they do it Office Space style with baseball bats & rap music playing in the background. The scene is identical to one in the movie Office Space in which a printer is treated the same way the record is treated.
  • During Peter's visit at the record store, we can see an ABBA record in the background and a Pink Floyd poster on the wall.
  • Peter tries to pee on some of Amy Grant's CDs.
  • Marley Matlin is shown trying to use a voice recognition movie information service. She wants to see the movie The Last Mimzy, but the system tells her she wants to see 300.
  • Peter mentions the time he, Cleveland & Joe went to see Chronicles of Riddick.
  • When Jesus turns dinner into icecream, he does it to the sound effect that is used in the show "Bewitched" whenever Samantha performs magic.
  • George Bush gets to meet Jesus.
  • A couple in bed gets distracted by John Aston.
  • Jesus wants Peter to get him a "Cracked" magazine, which Peter finds hard to believe.
  • Jesus gets to be on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. That night's show also features David Coulier of "Full House" and Joss Stone.
  • Jesus enters the "Tonight Show" set to a jazz instrumental version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem."
  • On Leno's show, Jesus says he plays a lot of Call of Duty 4 (a video game) and eats PinkBerry (an often-mentioned favorite treat of celebrities). He also claims to have revived River Phoenix, who ultimately overdosed again at the Viper Room.
  • The "New York Post" says "Jesus is bigger than Jesus," which is an allusion to this quote made famous by John Lennon: " The Beatles are bigger than Jesus."
  • Dane Cook introduces Jesus at the MTV Music Video Awards.
  • Jesus walks on stage with the Pussycat Dolls at the aforementioned video award show.
  • At a party, we overhear that Lindsay Lohan is taking off her top.

Also, there is an allusion to Woody Allen's Annie Hall when Peter introduces Jesus to President Bush.

The 50's style diner could also refer to Jack Rabbit Slim's in Pulp Fiction.
